836 Medal. 1787. Silver. 65 mm. 99.39 gm. By T. Ivanov. Honoring Triumphal Journey of the Empress to the Crimea. Bust of Catherine II right / Map showing route of the outward and return journey. Sm 304; Reichel 2689. RARE EF   1,000. The three-month progress was stage-managed by Potemkin to mark the successful colonization of the new province following its annexation in 1783. There is the well-known story about cardboard villages populated with neatly-dressed peasants driven from one place to the other. As a result of Potemkin's success he was named Prince of Taurida.

The last digit of the date were left blank to be punched in when the medal was awarded Choice EF   250. Leberecht's Military bust was also used on the 1806-1807 Pattern Roubles.
